Connect Water or Sewer Service New

Item

If your home or business does not currently have JEA water or sewer service, the very first step is to submit a Service Availability Request to determine the availability of the water and/or sewer line and receive instructions on establishing service with JEA.

Cost assessments are done on an individual basis for the connection of JEA water and/or sewer service.

While JEA cannot require you to connect to water or sewer service, the Department of Regulatory and Environmental Service (RESD) is the enforcement agency that may require connections depending on circumstances.

Submit Service Availability Request

All forms and fees must be brought to our Water Pre-Service Counter, found in our Customer Center located at 21 W. Church Street.

The most common and smallest available is the ¾” water meter. Larger water meters are available, if needed, but your Basic Monthly Charge on your monthly bill will go up accordingly.

You can think of your water meter as the hose that controls the amount of water flowing into your home or business. Large homes with many bathrooms, a pool and a hot tub, for instance, will need more water supplied to it at once. The Basic Monthly Charge enables JEA to pay for the vast and expensive underground network of water and sewer pipes supplying your home or business.

Irrigation meters help JEA customers save on their water bill because they avoid sewer charges. Irrigation metered water may cost slightly more than regular water service, however you are avoiding the cost of sewer charges. The irrigation water rate is schedule thus so to encourage conservation of precious resources and was agreed upon with the SJRWMD.

Your Service Availability letter will let you know if reclaimed water is available in your area. If it is available, you must use reclaimed water for your irrigation, not potable, and you must follow certain guidelines outlined in the Reclaimed Water Use Acknowledgement and Agreement Formto ensure safety of the reclaimed water use (linked below).

Irrigation meters can be quite expensive to install, so please factor all considerations into the cost of your irrigation meter.

Backflow Prevention Devices are required when you have an irrigation meter, whether reclaimed or potable.

If a JEA sewer connection is available, a Service Availability letter will advise you if the connection is to a Gravity Sewer Line or Vacuum Sewer System. Your private sewer line will need to be connected to the JEA sewer system and required permits must be obtained through the City of Jacksonville Plumbing Inspection Division.

Gravity Sewer Lines and Vacuum Sewer Systems are not the same and it is up to your plumber to know the difference.

Sewer Meters

JEA does not use a separate sewer meter to measure sewer charges. The Basic Monthly Charge for sewer is based on the size of your water meter.

However, for sewer only customers with private wells, a well meter must be installed. This allows JEA to measure the amount of water discharged into the sanitary sewer system. Please call JEA Water and Sewer Pre-Service at (904) 665-5260 for more information.
